About Me: A Journey of Curiosity, Courage, and Creativity
Hello, and welcome to my little corner of the internet! I’m Sukanya, a dreamer, writer, and storyteller, currently living in Thailand. Whether you stumbled across my blog through an online search, a happy accident, or a friend’s recommendation, I’m so glad you’re here.
This blog is more than just a collection of words for me, it’s a space to explore ideas, reflect on my journey, and connect with people like you. Writing has always been my way of expressing myself, and I’m excited to share my thoughts, stories, and insights with the world.
My Background: A Love for Learning and Exploring
I was born and raised in Thailand, where my curiosity and appreciation for culture and community were gently shaped over time. I have always been drawn to new perspectives and quiet moments of reflection, and this eventually led me to complete a Bachelor of Science in my home country.
As a child, school did not always feel like a safe or comfortable place. I was in a classroom of around 45 children with just one teacher. It often felt crowded, noisy, and overwhelming. I remember dreading going to school and sometimes pretending to be sick on Wednesdays, just so I could stay home a little longer with my parents. Those early experiences stayed with me and quietly influenced the way I think about education, childhood, and care.
Later on, I made the decision to move to Australia in search of new experiences and a different way of living and learning. Over eight meaningful years, I lived, studied, and worked here. I completed a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and worked in a childcare centre, gradually moving from Assistant Educator to Room Leader.
Working with young children has been deeply fulfilling. In many ways, it feels like I am offering them the care, patience, and gentle attention I once wished for myself. Being with children in their early years has taught me how important it is to create calm, nurturing spaces where every child feels seen, heard, and safe, values that continue to guide me every day.
After spending some time back in Thailand, reconnecting with my roots and reflecting on my journey, I returned to Australia with a clearer sense of purpose. I am now studying a Graduate Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care at RMIT University. This new chapter allows me to deepen my understanding of early childhood education and to bring together my personal history, my professional experience, and my love for supporting children’s learning and well-being.
Coming Full Circle: Returning to Australia and Rediscovering My Passion
Coming back to Australia for postgraduate study feels like gently coming full circle. I carry with me my childhood memories from Thailand, my years of working with children in Australia, and the quiet lessons I learned while I was back home.
Through all of this, my love for learning, creativity, and self-expression has grown stronger. Writing became a soft, steady companion, something that helped me make sense of my thoughts and feelings as I moved between countries, cultures, and classrooms. For me, writing is a space where I can reflect, express myself honestly, and connect with others who might be walking through their own seasons of change.
Why I Started This Blog
This blog is a reflection of who I am, a gentle mix of personal stories, simple moments, and lessons from my life in both Thailand and Australia. It is also a space for people like you, who may be seeking comfort, inspiration, or simply a quiet, relatable voice.
Lessons I’ve Learned Along the Way
Life has taken me through different education systems, across continents, and into the world of early childhood education. Along the way, I’ve learned to move more gently with change and to trust that growth can be slow and quiet, too. Some lessons close to my heart are:
- Follow your curiosity: Even small questions can lead you to new places, new people, and new versions of yourself.
- Embrace change softly: Stepping out of your comfort zone doesn’t always have to be loud or dramatic. Sometimes it is a quiet decision to keep going, one small step at a time.
Share your voice.: Your stories and feelings are important. You never know who might feel a little less alone because you chose to share.
- Every child deserves to feel seen: My own memories of feeling lost in a crowded classroom remind me how powerful it is when a child feels noticed, valued, and cared for. This belief sits at the centre of my work and study.
Looking Ahead: My Hopes for the Future
As I continue my Graduate Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care at RMIT, I hope to keep growing into an educator who is calm, kind, and responsive to children’s needs. I want to create learning environments where children feel safe to explore, to make mistakes, to laugh, and to be themselves.
In the future, I see myself:
- Supporting children’s learning, play, and emotional well-being in gentle, thoughtful ways.
- Building warm, respectful relationships with families and working together to support each child.
- Advocating for early childhood education and care that truly honours the uniqueness of every child.
Beyond the classroom, I hope to keep writing, capturing small moments, sharing quiet reflections, and offering words that might bring a sense of comfort or encouragement to others.
If any part of my story resonates with you, I would be grateful to connect. My hope is to help create a small community that values kindness, creativity, and growth, and that believes in the power of gentle stories to bring people together.
